My name is Alec Beglarian, and I’m the founder of Mailberry. I’ve spent more than two decades working in email marketing, including launching an ESP in 2010 that was later acquired in 2015.
Over those years, email marketing platforms became significantly more powerful. They also became significantly more complicated.
That tension is ultimately why I started Mailberry.
Why We Built Mailberry
Traditional email service providers evolved far beyond simply creating and sending emails. They became increasingly complex systems with automation builders, segmentation tools, editors, reporting, integrations, and countless other features.
For sophisticated teams, that power can be valuable.
But for a lot of businesses, more functionality also meant more decisions, more setup, and more time spent operating the email platform itself.
I kept coming back to a simple idea:
Email marketing should be easier to do well.
The businesses that succeed with email aren’t necessarily the ones using the most features. They’re the ones consistently communicating with the right customers, with relevant messages, and getting better at it over time.
That became the original philosophy behind Mailberry.
What the First Version of Mailberry Got Right
The first version of Mailberry focused heavily on simplifying email creation.
One of the recurring problems I had seen throughout my career was that marketers often knew they should send an email but struggled with the next question:
What should I say?
An early survey I conducted through Email Mastery reinforced that problem. Copy, engagement, segmentation, and knowing what to send were among the recurring challenges marketers described.

That was one of the reasons we began experimenting with AI very early.
Our initial idea was straightforward: combine a simpler email platform with AI that could help marketers create better emails much faster.
At the time, that was a meaningful step forward.
But it also led us to a much bigger realization.
What We Learned
Making it easier to write an email solved only one part of the problem.
Even after AI helped create the copy, the marketer was still responsible for operating the entire system.
They still had to decide:
What should we send?
Who should receive it?
Which campaigns should we run?
Which flows should we build?
What needs attention?
What should we improve next?
The writing wasn’t really the whole problem.
The decision-making was.
And as AI became integrated into more marketing platforms, another distinction started becoming clear to us.
Why Adding AI to an ESP Wasn’t Enough
Most traditional email platforms were built around the same basic model:
The marketer operates the platform.
AI can make individual tasks inside that platform faster. It can help write copy, generate subject lines, build segments, or assist with analysis.
And as AI email marketing became more common, another distinction started becoming clear to us.
Those capabilities are useful.
But adding AI features to an existing workflow doesn’t fundamentally change who is responsible for figuring out what should happen next.
The marketer is still operating the system.
We started thinking about Mailberry differently.
Instead of asking how AI could help marketers complete more tasks inside an email platform, we began asking:
What if the platform could understand the business well enough to help determine what should happen next?
That question changed the direction of Mailberry.
The Emergence of The Email Brain™
That thinking eventually became The Email Brain™.

The Email Brain™ is the intelligence layer at the center of Mailberry.
It learns the business, identifies what to send next, and helps build and continuously optimize campaigns and flows.
The goal isn’t simply to generate more content.
It’s to connect strategy, creation, execution, analysis, and optimization so the intelligence behind the email program improves over time.
That is the difference between simply adding AI features to an email platform and building the platform around intelligence from the beginning.
What Mailberry Is Today
Mailberry has evolved into an AI-native email marketing platform powered by The Email Brain™.
The original mission hasn’t changed.
We still believe email marketing has become unnecessarily complicated and that technology should make it easier for businesses to do email well.
What has changed is our understanding of what “easier” really means.
It’s not just a faster editor.
It’s not just AI-generated copy.
And it’s not simply adding another assistant to an already complicated platform.
It means helping marketers spend less time operating email software and more time making better decisions about their customers and their business.
The Email Brain™ is being built to learn from the business, surface opportunities, help determine what should be sent next, assist with building campaigns and flows, and continuously improve the program as it learns.
Where Mailberry Is Going
The first version of Mailberry was about making emails easier to create.
The next version is about making email marketing itself more intelligent.
We believe the future of email isn’t another platform with a longer feature list.
It’s a system that understands the business, helps determine the next best action, executes alongside the marketer, learns from the results, and becomes more useful over time.
That’s the direction we’re building toward with Mailberry and The Email Brain™.
The technology has evolved considerably since we first started.
The mission hasn’t:
Make great email marketing simpler.
